VENEERS IN ST KILDA

Veneers are the cosmetic solution to changing the look of your teeth, whether they are chipped, crooked or perhaps the shape isn’t quite right. It’s also another option on top of whitening when it comes to changing the colour of your teeth.

Before people commit to going ahead with any cosmetic enhancements, it’s always a good idea to have a think about if you are happy with the current colour of your teeth. As mentioned with crowns, the colour will not change once the veneer has been placed. Majority of our patients will usually lighten their teeth either subtly or dramatically before they go ahead.

There are two ways we can veneer teeth, with either porcelain or composite.

Porcelain

This is the most traditional, ‘Hollywood’ way. The tooth is conservatively prepped by shaving away a thin layer of enamel then we take an impression which goes away to a laboratory for two weeks or so, and when it/they return, the thin porcelain veneer, which covers the whole front surface as well as 1/3 of the back, is bonded to the tooth’s natural enamel.

Composite

Composite is the same material we use for tooth coloured fillings and a more affordable option for veneers. The upside is they can be done on the day without the need to come back for several appointments and they leave most of the natural tooth without having to cut much away. The downside is they stain over time and not quite as strong as porcelain.

We have had many happy patients over the years that have experienced either option and have amazing results.
