What are Dental Implants?

Dental Implants have been around for a long time now, and it has been proven to be a highly successful and effective way of resorting and function and aesthetics of your teeth. Dental Implants are basically artificial teeth that we place in your jaw where the teeth are missing. It replicates the shape and colour of the original teeth so that you can chew just as normally and clean them just as normal.

Implants can be combined with dentures to give them extra support or if you choose to, the entire missing teeth can be replaced with implants only. Whether you are missing one tooth or multiple teeth, dental implants can be a permanent and effective way to get your dental health and that beautiful smile back!

What are Dental Implants used for?

Dental Implants are used to secure porcelain crowns, dental bridges and dentures; used as a titanium substitute for the tooth root that is missing. During the procedure a metal implant is placed directly into the upper or lower jaw bone and over the coming months the implant integrates into the surrounding bone making it stable enough to support dental prosthesis’.

Advantages of Dental Implants:

  • Feel and looks like a natural tooth
  • As comfortable as a natural tooth
  • Chewing remains an enjoyable experience
  • An implant has the same strong chewing force as that of a natural tooth
  • Protection of adjacent teeth
  • No chance of a cavity
  • Increased stability in the full denture
  • Economical and durable
  • Relief from the discomfort of wearing dentures
  • Maintenance of health jawbone
  • Increased stability in the full denture

How long is the treatment period?

The treatment period takes about 1 month from consultation up to the first surgery and then a further 2-3 months until the implant is firmly fixed and the porcelain crowns, dental bridges or dentures are mounted. This period could be extended to 6-9 months depending on the condition of the patient’s jaw, chewing strength and mouth.
